What is it and how does it work?

It is a flexible or silicone device used with spremicide placed inside the vagina and covers the cervix. This then stops sperm entering the womb and meeting an egg. 

Effectiveness

92-96% effective when used with spremaicide and with perfect use.71-88% effective with typical use.

Who can have it?

Women of child bearing age depending on consultation

Advantages

Can be put in up to 3 hours before sex and you use more spermicide before sex. You only need to use it when you have sex. There are no serious side effects.

Disadvantages

Extra spermacide is needed each time you have sex. Some people can be sensitive to spermicide's. It can take time to learn how to use a cap or diaphragm.

Risks/Side effects

You need to use the correct size, you may need a different size if you loose weight or have a baby. A Cap or diaphragm needs to stay in place for 6 hours after sex.
