Spotting the signs of an unhealthy relationship:

Sexual abuse

Forcing someone to do any sexual acts they don’t want to.  Sexual abuse includes: unwanted kissing or touching.  Refusing to use condoms or restricting someone’s access to contraception.  Any sexual activing with someone who is drunk. Drugged, unconscious or otherwise unable to give a clear and informed ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

Isolation

Controlling what they do, who the partner sees and talks to, what they read, there the partner goes and limiting their outside activities.

Emotional/verbal abuse

Putting their partner down or calling them names.  Blaming others for their behaviour or making someone feel guilty.

Physical abuse

Hitting, punching, slapping, kicking, grabbing someone or throwing objects.

Digital abuse

Sending abusive messages, texting/calling excessively, getting angry if someone doesn’t reply, and checking someone’s phone/social media.

Financial abuse

Controlling their partner’s money.  Spending money on themselves and not letting their partner do the same.  Limiting the hours someone spends at work.
