Candida (Thrush)
Candida is a common yeast (also called a fungus).
It is not sexually transmitted – it exists as a microscopic spore (seed) in the air but can settle to the vagina and grow.
Many women carry candida in their vagina from time to time with little or no symptoms and the body naturally recovers without treatment.
Some women develop symptoms of increased discharge with discomfort or itch. If you have these symptoms you can get treatment from a high street pharmacy over the counter (OTC) without a prescription.
If OTC treatments don’t work after a few days or you have other symptoms then go to a sexual health clinic or your GP.
