Sophie Fernandez MA HCPC COSRT BAAT

Sophie Fernandez

I have been practicing at The Heath Sexual Clinic, Croydon University Hospital, NHS Trust since 2018. I initially qualified as an art therapist in 2009 and started specialising in Psychosexual and Relationship therapy from 2018.

At the Heath I work with a wide range of people with a rich diversity of cultural backgrounds. I appreciate that each patient is unique with regards to their history and individual sexual and relationship difficulties.

Each therapeutic journey is private and confidential. I am non-judgmental and I consider the goal for the patient. I work closely with each patient to provide the best therapeutic approach and treatment plan to support their needs. My work is about facilitating a creative process of reflection, change and expression with the patients with the intent to provide them with a sense of achievement, resilience and potency.

Prior to working at The Heath Clinic I worked with a wide range of people, from young people to adults, in special needs and mainstream schools and in day centre, initially working with people with learning disabilities, autism, Asperger syndrome and, with people with physical disabilities.

In addition to working at the Heath I work from my private practice in Wimbledon since 2016. I have supervised trainees since 2013 and obtained a postgraduate diploma in supervision in 2017.

My training and education includes an MA in Art Therapy (Roehampton University), London Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy, Postgraduate Diploma in supervision (Terapia), Systemic Family & Couple Psychotherapy Foundation course (Springfield University Hospital), Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art (Chelsea College of Art) and currently training in Body Psychotherapy.

Professional affiliations: The Health and Care Professions Council, (HCPC), British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT).
